7 Signs of Angels

One of the things I stress to my clients is, you don’t have to go it alone. Human life is hard, but between angels, spirit guides and our loved ones on the Other Side, there are plenty of folks ready to help guide us over the potholes and gaping sinkholes we encounter. All you need do is send up the Bat Signal. Then pay attention.

Here are some common signs that you’ve been heard:

1) Feathers: white feathers are commonly regarded as a sign of the angels. Sometimes you’ll find a big fat one; but small ones are no less potent. I was sitting outside the other day meditating when a tiny white feather drifted right down from nowhere. Sweet.

2) Butterflies. What a sign of transformation! You don’t necessarily have to see a live one; a photo or one on TV also counts.

3) Dragonflies. With their ability to “walk on water” (literally), dragonflies remind us to look beneath the surface. And, like the explanation above, an image will do.

4) Coins. Notice where and when you find them, if they’re especially shiny or have a significant date on them.

5) Music. Flip on the radio after sending up your request and notice what random lyrics have to say. Also, a particular artist may remind you of someone on the Other Side.

6) Rainbows. Judy Garland sang about ‘em for a reason. And they were a sign to Noah that the storm had passed.

7) Sparkles of light. When you catch them out of the corner of your eye, you can be sure it’s the presence of a helper.

The thing about these indicators is, they stand out. There’s something out of the ordinary about when, where and how you experience them.

I was once walking through Times Square with a colleague who was grieving the loss of his mother. Her nickname had been “Bird,” so every feather he encountered on the nasty, funky street, he just had to pick up. The gazillion pigeons in the area just gave him side-eye. Because, pigeons.

The point is, you’ll KNOW when it’s a sign. Trust it.

Also trust that help will come from spirit-side; but it may not show up in the way you expect. For example, you may be gently steered to overhear a conversation about a company that’s hiring, rather than get a promotion at your present job. Keep an open mind – our helpers know what they’re doing.

What signs of spirit presence have you experienced?  Leave it in the comments.

Your 8 Spirit Helpers

The last couple weeks have been pretty cool.  During my readings, I’ve been getting some very powerful connections with my client’s spirit guides.

Now, I’m used to linking in with a main guide – the one that stays with us from birth to death. But lately, I’ve had evidence of some of the 7 other guides that are available to each of us.

See, human life is hard. It kicks our ass on a regular basis. But we don’t go through it alone. Each of us has access to a robust “spirit team” that can offer inspiration, information, connections and help as we navigate our path. Unlike angels, spirit guides have been human. So they know what we’re dealing with and are ready to jump in with some help.

Here’s a quick breakdown of your team:

1) The Gatekeeper, Doorkeeper or Master guide. This is the guide who stays with us from the moment of birth to the moment of death. His/her job is to help us stay on track with the life plan we came up with ahead of incarnating. This is your go-to resource for any sort of guidance we need – just ask.

Kinda like this guy...

Kinda like this guy…

The Master guide also coordinates and monitors the other guides who are available:

2) Healer Guides: these can help with any kind of health issue, including emotional issues. Call on them to help you stick to a new diet or fitness routine. If you’re dealing with serious illness, the healer can direct you to information or practitioners that will assist you. Healer guides may have been doctors in their human life, or they may have been shamans, midwives, herbalists, anything related to caring for the body.

th

3) Teacher Guides: call for a Teacher guide if you’re trying to master a new skill, taking a course or trying to improve any aspect of your life. Kids can call on their Teacher guide to help them with school issues; if you’re having difficulty in a relationship, a teacher guide will present situations as “lessons” to help you break through roadblocks, etc. You’ll have a whole bunch of “aha!” moments with these guys.

th-1

Sorry, I still don’t understand algebra.

4) Helper Guide: this guide only shows up at moments of great stress in your life. They will step in to assist in a health crisis or a situation that requires a little extra spiritual muscle.   The energy is very potent, and they often show themselves as a medicine man or shaman.

th-2

5) Protector Guide: like a Helper guide, the Protector comes around when the person is in a dangerous situation. They appear as a very large being with a ton of energy emanating from them. Call on them when you’re in a risky profession, for people in the military or any time when you’re in a dodgy place. This doesn’t give you license to step in front of a bus, but when you need some extra protective armor, this is the entity to request.

th-4

6) Runner Guide: this guide connects us with the presence of loved ones in spirit or missing items that are especially meaningful to us. They literally “run” to fetch the spirit or information on the missing item – and for that reason, often appear as an animal. Runner guides tend to appear in our dreams, bringing you a link to the invisible dimensions.

th-3

7) Warrior Guide: this one is tricky. Warrior guides are there to help us pump up the badass, and help us master fear and weakness. But the energy of the warrior guide is so bold, that it can often lead you into some dicey situations – like turning you into that loudmouth drunk who thinks they’re bulletproof and eggs on a fight. So call on your Warrior guide sparingly.

Seriously. You don't want this guy hanging around too much.

Seriously. You don’t want this guy hanging around too much.

8) Joy guides: I love these. The Joy guide will make us laugh, will lighten the energy of a heavy situation. Joy guides will lift the spirits of someone in a tough place – like a breath of fresh air. They often appear as little children, and the energy is very fizzy and sparkly.

th-5

One thing that I frequently stress in my sessions is that you don’t have to do your life alone. There are resources available to help you make better decisions and move forward in a meaningful way.   Ultimately, you’re responsible – but you have a loving team who will give you fresh input and root you on.  The only things you have to do are 1) ask for their help  2) pay attention to what they send you and 3) thank them.

I wrote about a meditation to help you meet your main spirit guide – but you can use the technique to meet your other team members.

How — and When — Change Really Happens

Her email was all in caps: HELP! I’M TRYING TO CHANGE, BUT DON’T SEE ANYTHING HAPPENING!!!! (Yeah, that made my head hurt, too.)

This client is not alone. Lately, I’ve had a run on folks coming by who are trying their damndest to make a shift – but the results don’t seem to be following. It’s super-frustrating.

Most of us think “change” is like a vending machine: we put our intention in, so we should get an instant payoff. Wouldn’t that be great? But the reality is, we feel like our intention is a stuck bag of potato chips. Hate when that happens.

th-1

What I frequently see is that the payoff is closer than we realize. We just have to keep on truckin’. That’s what the Universe asks us to do: keep walking.   Have some faith. Because with each step we take, the Powers That Be take one towards us.

I’ve seen this happen time and again: we think that we have to do it all, but the truth is, we have partners. And when we show the tiniest bit of willingness to move ahead on our path, we get an assist. Our spirit guides, the angels, loved ones on the Other Side….these are just a few of the entities available to us to help us fulfill our mission here  [the rule is, though, you have to ask them for help. Even if you’re not sure what kind of “help” you need,  just send out a generic 911 call.  Then watch for signs that you’ve been heard.]

th-3

I also think our idea of “results” needs to shift. Our society encourages the notion of “overnight success,” “instant this” and “instant that.” But successful change is a process. It’s not one moment, but a bunch of them.   If Jeannie could blink and make it happen all at once, that would be cheating (remember how many problems her “help” caused for Major Nelson?  Am I dating myself?)

th-2

The Moon card in the Tarot is all about this. You can’t see a foot in front of you in the dark. It’s all kinds of scary (hence, the yapping dogs). But in order to get out of that spooky forest you need to keep pushing through. If you just sit down and curl up in a ball, that’s how you’ll stay.

th

Be brave. Even when you can’t see the results yet, keep working it.   Keep the finishing line in mind. All of a sudden, you’ll come around the corner – and there it will be.

If I can help you push past some obstacles and stay on the path, get in touch.  In the meantime, sing us out, Bono.

Bringing A Dream Back to Life

I love Facebook, mainly for the way it helps us reconnect with people from our past – like my college roommate.  She posted something today that made me recall how frikkin’ smart she always was – even if most of the time, we couldn’t see it through all the pot smoke and Southern Comfort haze polluting the dorm.

In 1979, this was a food group.

In 1979, this was a food group.

Here’s what she had to say about the upcoming holiday shopping frenzy:

“Just had a radical thought. Apologies to all the retailers out there, but who among us needs more stuff? Hmmmm? What if this year, instead of giving ANY gifts, we funded people’s dreams? What if we asked the people on our gift list, “What do you dream about doing/becoming?” And then, what if we took whatever we were going to spend on whatever THING they probably don’t need (even if they think they want it) and spent that on making something less tangible, but likely more valuable, come true? Wouldn’t that be amazing?

Yes.  Yes, it would.  But it put me in mind of something that comes up with many of my clients:  they don’t know what their dream is anymore.  Or they’re afraid to express it.  The litany I hear is a mashup of,  “It’s too late/I have too many responsibilities/it’s stupid…”  But the thing is, it’s your DUTY to recapture some part of that dream and make it happen to whatever extent you can.

Choosing to get on the wild ride that is human life is a big deal.  The souls that agree to step back into human form are opting for a major opportunity to not only grow themselves, but to help other souls grow by their influence.  It’s like throwing a pebble into a pond: the ripples move outward.

The dream(s) you came into this life with are part of your homework as a soul.  If you can’t quite recall them, think back to the things you liked to do as a child.  I was insane for ballet, and bugged my parents for lessons.  Hips and boobs and being 5’9” kinda killed the goal of being a professional, but my love for the art form has continued.  I’ve shared my knowledge and love of various ballets and dancers with younger enthusiasts, and like to think I’m sort of paying it forward.

In my dreams....

In my dreams….

So while becoming a pro singer, football star or veterinarian may be out of the cards, there are always ways to dabble.  Drill down to the core of what you love: if you can’t go to vet school, you could do animal rescue work.  If you never made it to the major leagues, you can coach Little League.  Ask your spirit guides to give you some direction.  They live for this stuff.

The dreams you have are the carry-on bags from your journey from the Other Side.  They hold the seeds to your happiness and spiritual evolution.  And the people who are also touched by those dreams grow in ways you can’t even imagine.

So this season, give thanks for the impossible notions you came into this life with.  Take a moment to dust them off,  look at them — then dare to make them happen.

“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.” — awesome quote I just heard on a TV commercial

How to Remember (and Use) Your Dreams

The other night I dreamt I was about to go on stage in front of thousands of people, to play bass with the Stones.  Only I don’t know how to play.  And unlike flying or breathing underwater, I didn’t know how to do it in the dream, either. Here I was gonna be standing next to Charlie Watts, a frikkin’ awesome drummer and one of my heroes. And I’m clueless. Clue. Less.  It still gives me the willies when I recall it.

I'm not worthy...I'm not worthy....

I’m not worthy…I’m not worthy….

I know where that particular dream came from: reading an article about the band in Rolling Stone earlier. But there are other dreams that offer up more than just a psychedelic rehash of the day.

Like those wonderful ones where you encounter someone you’ve lost and they look wonderful.  They practically shine.  And you know – you just know –that they’ve visited you from the Other Side. Or the one where you get a “preview” of something that’s about to happen.   This is where dreams serve a really useful purpose, to “download” info from other dimensions.  Our conscious brain is in “sleep” mode – literally – so we can access different channels.

You may not think you dream, but you do.  It’s a vital physical function; in fact, I think I read somewhere that, when test subjects were prevented from dreaming (as in, being woken up repeatedly), they got really sick.  Umm, for the record?  I would cut a bitch if someone did that to me.  Anyway, the point is you do indeed dream — you just aren’t so hot on remembering them.

Dreaming is where we work stuff out on the physical plane, but more importantly, its where we access higher dimensions.  Training yourself to remember what you learn in Dreamland is not as hard as you might think.

First, keep a notebook and pen by your bed.  Second, set your intention to start remembering your dreams  As you drift off, tell yourself that you WILL recall what you’ve experienced in the dream state.  If you wake up in the middle of the night from a dream, jot down what you remember.  Do NOT tell yourself that you’ll do it in the morning.  Trust me, you probably won’t.   So roll over, turn on the light for 10 seconds and scrawl it down. Just like Jerry Seinfeld with his awesome idea for a joke…..which he then couldn’t read.

When you first wake up from a dream, try not to move.  This will keep you in that state between the worlds where it will be easier to consciously recall what you’ve experienced.  Once you’ve captured a theme, image, whatever jot it in your notebook.

If something really stands out, ask yourself what it means – then go with the first impression or thought that you get.  Don’t overthink it.  Stay in that muted place where things flow without a lot of intellect behind them.  Dreams reach us on a very subtle level; use more of your gut to interpret them, and less your brain.

There are some great dream interpretation books  ( I like Mary Summer Rain’s Guide to Dream Symbols) and sites out there, but don’t discount what your own bad self tells you.

Once you’ve built up your recall muscle, you can direct your dreams towards something specific.  For example, you can invite a deceased loved one to visit you in the dream state.  Don’t force this; they have things going on on the Other Side. They don’t sit around, flipping through Us magazine, waiting for your call. Make the invitation, then let it go.  Trying too hard blocks the energy.

You can also ask your Spirit Guides to provide an answer to a question by way of your dreams.  Even if you don’t know who your guide(s) is, simply throw up a request for information.  You can assign them a name if you want, or just say, “Yo, Guides – I need some help here with (fill in the blank).”  They don’t stand on formality.  Then see what they send you.  And don’t be surprised if the answer/info you get is different than what you expect.  Receive it with grace and say “thank you.”

Better than one of these!

Better than one of these!

One note – don’t get frustrated if you don’t get anywhere in remembering your dreams. Keep setting the intention, and eventually you will.

There’s an old folk trick to help the dream recall process along.  Place a glass of water by your bed.  When you first wake up, drink it down to help remember.  Or to get the stank morning breath out of your mouth.  In the meantime, enjoy a blast from my 80s past.  And the exquisite Annie Lennox.  In my dreams, I have her voice.  In real life, my singing voice is closer to Linda McCartney’s.

Give It Up! Your Invisible Helpers

During my meditation this morning, I got a message that went something like, “You don’t have to do it all yourself.”  This is pretty much spot on, being the perky little control freak that I am.  It put me in mind of this card:

th

When this card comes up in a reading, it indicates someone who’s taking on way too much or doing most of the work in the situation. And you can see that he’s in danger of tripping and dropping his bundle — which means, he has to pick them up again and he’s probably in a hurry and his back is hurting and he’s feeling like he has to do it all and wah wah wah….you get the idea.

The advice behind the 10 of Wands is to share the load — but for control freaks (like me), that can be tough.  However, each of us has a team we can call on to help.

They’re always awake (even at 3:20 am).  Their phone is always on and never goes to voicemail.  They never get tired of hearing your problems.  They don’t judge the size of your ass.  They are assigned to you from the time you’re born and stay with you until you cross over.  They’re not allowed to leave you, no matter how big a pain you may become.

They are your Spirit Team, made up of your spirit guides and a guardian angel.  I wrote about spirit guides here –but one of the questions I repeatedly get asked is, “How do I work with them?”  It’s really not that complicated:  just tell them what you need.   That’s it.

I’ll give you a way to meet your guide(s) later — but in the meantime, even if you don’t know their name or anything about them,  just reach out.  I suggest taking a moment before you go to sleep to send up your message, but you can do it anytime.  They don’t stand on ceremony. Something like, “Hi Spirit Team– I could really use your help in knowing how I should handle the situation with Mark.  Please send me a sign or some information.  Thanks.”

Then keep your radar up.  Your Team will always deliver, but it may be subtle and it may not show up the way you expect.  The point is to offload some of your burdens on to them.  They live for this stuff, so put them to work on your behalf.

There have been a number of great “teams.”  Like these guys….

th-1

Or this crew, boldly going where no man has gone before….

th-2

But YOUR “team” has ’em all licked.  And they are at your beck and call, ready to take some of the weight for you.  Remember the message I got this morning?  “You don’t have to do it all yourself.”  You don’t!

Let the late, great Levon Helm and The Band sing us out….

THE OUIJA HEEBIE-JEEBIES

I still remember the first time I ever used a Ouija board:  I was in fifth grade, having a sleepover with my friends.  After a long, giggly debate, we decided the dead person we most wanted to contact was….Betsy Ross.  Go figure. (I voted for Bobby Sherman, but he wasn’t dead– a minor technicality).

“Easy come….easy goooo…..”

Anyway, we shut the bedroom door, lit a candle, gathered ‘round the board….and promptly had the crap scared out of us when my mother (listening on the other side of the door) gave a spooky “Woooooooo.”  Cue the sound of high-pitched squealing 10 year olds.

Ouija boards have a reputation, which hasn’t been helped by a long line of stories starting with “I heard about this guy who….” or movies where they burst into flames. But I personally don’t believe they are the default gateway to the demonic, and here’s why.

The board is a way of communicating with the spirit world.  Like any work with spirit, certain precautions are necessary.  Whenever I do a reading, meditation, etc, I make a habit of surrounding myself with the white light of love and protection.  I declare that only positive and helpful entities be allowed into this circle.  To me, this is my “Beware of Dog” sign to any spirit that might want to make mischief .

The same kind of precautions apply when working with a Ouija board.  You only want “good spirits” to come through.   And here’s one more thing I learned from a very experienced medium:  have a bouncer.  She works with a board all the time, but generally gets the information from one spirit guide alone.  When she wants to communicate with a different spirit, that guide steps aside – but keeps an eye out in case things start to go off the rails. He has the power to tell that troublesome entity to hit the road.

“I don’t care WHO you are….you’re not on the list….”

Several years ago, I had a Wiccan friend of mine make a Ouija board for me.  See how beautiful it is?

Image

She put a lot of positive energy into it – and added one special touch on the back:  the engraved message, “with harm to none.”  When I work with this wonderful board, I have one of my guides serve as my doorman.  I also make sure to start every session with positive intentions and the circle of protective light.

Having said this, however, I don’t recommend working with a board casually.Like chainsaws, explosives or PowerPoint,  you need to know what you’re doing.  It’s just good sense.

Kids and chainsaws….never a good mix.

As for all those tales of spooky Ouija boards?  Wait…it’s spelling out something….”Forget….about….it….”!
